Ex-UFC fighter who survived mass shooting criticises Dana White over reaction to White House gunman

One UFC veteran wasn’t happy with Dana White’s reaction to the recent shooting near the White House, especially after he called it “awesome.”

The UFC president is heading to Washington, D.C., soon for a special fight card on the White House lawn.

White was also in the area ahead of that event, attending last Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

White was at the Washington Hilton when news broke of a gunman opening fire outside. Despite the serious situation, he didn’t seem too bothered by what happened.

Matt Brown criticises Dana White for calling White House shooting “awesome”

Speaking to USA Today, White described the incident as “awesome,” going into detail about his experience at the event.

“It was f—ing awesome,” he said. “I literally took every minute of it in, and it was a pretty crazy, unique experience. We were sitting right in front of the table, right in front of where the president was.

“Nobody got tackled, but guys came in looking for shooters and they came toward our table. I thought the shooter was over by us or something.”

The shooter, identified as a 31-year-old schoolteacher and computer engineer, fired shots in the lobby before being apprehended. A Secret Service agent was struck during the incident.

Brown addressed this during an episode of MMA Fighting’s The Fighter vs. The Writer, pushing back against White’s choice of words.

Brown knows firsthand what it’s like to be caught up in a shooting. He was at a 2004 Damageplan concert when four people were killed.

With that background, Brown didn’t hold back on his feelings about how White reacted to Saturday’s events.
