Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes is set to make midfield reinforcements a top priority in the upcoming transfer window, though the club’s exact approach will hinge on their final position in the Premier League table.
As things stand, Champions League qualification appears within reach, a factor that would significantly boost both Liverpool’s financial resources and their appeal to potential signings.
The club has already compiled an extensive and ambitious shortlist of midfield targets, with numerous players currently under consideration. This reflects a proactive approach from Hughes and his recruitment staff, who are keen to address key areas of the squad.
However, with the summer window approaching, the focus is now shifting toward refining that list and identifying the most suitable options.
Liverpool’s need for midfield additions is further heightened by uncertainty surrounding several current players.
Contract negotiations with Alexis Mac Allister have reportedly stalled, Wataru Endo could also be on the move. Meanwhile, Liverpool will be open to a loan deal for Trey Nyoni.
If all of the above mentioned players leave, Liverpool's midfield options would dwindle significantly.

However, while you'd have thought Liverpool would look to keep the remainder of their homegrown players at Anfield, that does not appear to be the case.
In fact according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are prepared to agree an extraordinary transfer that would see one of the club's best academy graduates in recent years leave the club this summer.
Yes, that's right. Curtis Jones is very likely to leave Liverpool in the summer, which is a bizarre decision considering not only his homegrown and club-trained status but because how talented he is.
Nonetheless according to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are prepared to let him go and there are already several big clubs interested in his services.
“I want to start with an underrated player, in my view, who could be one of the names of the summer on the market and we will be talking about midfielders and it’s Curtis Jones. Because Curtis Jones is out of contract at Liverpool in summer 2027," Romano said on the Here We Go Podcast.
“At the moment, to my understanding, there is no agreement to sign a new contract. At the moment, everything is on total standby between Curtis Jones, his camp and Liverpool. And so be careful with this situation because several clubs are tracking Curtis Jones.
“There was interest from Premier League already in the January transfer window. There was interest also from Inter in Serie A in January and I think Inter remain keen on the player. So there could be movements around Curtis Jones and you can imagine an important midfielder like him out of contract in 2027 could be a really interesting option.”
Losing Jones could be an extraordinary decision by Liverpool. It's one of those decisions that would make you question the direction of the club.
Sure, Mo Salah and Andy Robertson leaving can be explained because of their age, but Jones, in the prime of his career - it would be utter nonsense.
