The Blues sacked Liam Rosenior last month, less than four months after appointing him, and it’s been reported Chelsea want their next appointment in place before the start of the World Cup next month.
Rosenior became the second head coach to leave Stamford Bridge this season, following the departure of Enzo Maresca in January.
Chelsea held direct meeting with Xabi Alonso
The Blues are believed to have a five or six man shortlist, but it appears Alonso is their preferred candidate having held positive talks.
Chelsea’s immediate focus is on Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City, but the process is expected to accelerate once that’s concluded.
Alonso is said to want assurances over several aspects of the job including a say in transfers, but it’s been reported Chelsea are prepared to give him that.
