Fans back Gina Carano over Ronda Rousey ahead of Netflix main event

More than 2,000 fans have shared their views ahead of Saturday’s MVP MMA event.

Netflix is stepping into the fight game with its first mixed martial arts card, which wraps up with comebacks from Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.

Rousey, a former UFC champion, hasn’t fought in nearly a decade. Carano has been out even longer – her last appearance was a knockout loss to Cris Cyborg 17 years ago under the Strikeforce banner.

Some believe Rousey’s shorter layoff gives her an edge. Still, more fans have backed Carano over her in a recent poll despite the long absence.

Fans took part in a Bloody Elbow poll via TalkingPoints, giving their thoughts on who might come out on top between Rousey and Carano in Saturday’s main event.

With over 2,200 votes cast, the results weren’t exactly neck and neck, though the split was still notable given the names involved.

Despite being the betting underdog, it was Carano who came out ahead in fan support.

Rousey was backed by just over 45 percent of voters (995), while nearly 55 percent (1,208) went with Carano to pull off the upset.

A few fans also left comments explaining their picks on TalkingPoints:

“They’re both badasses, but my money is on Muay Thai. Gina Carano does it quite well,” wrote roryshumate159.

“Ronda by submission in 2nd. Easy payday for them. Nice easy win for me $$,” posted ytowntwin.
