Even the No. 1 NFL Draft pick is not immune to fans laughing at him.
Fernando Mendoza decided to stay back with his family during the 2026 NFL Draft, where he was the No. 1 overall pick selected by the Las Vegas Raiders. For the virtual viewing, Mendoza wore a silver-and-black suit before the draft, and after he was selected, he changed into a more modest outfit with a polo he got from the Rose Bowl. The moment immediately went viral online with fans clowning the new Raiders quarterback.
"Mendoza doing this interview in a Rose Bowl polo he got for free is killing me," the fan wrote on X.
"It’s awesome he looks like he’s reporting on the player being drafted first overall," another fan wrote on X.
One fan compared him to Kirk Cousins, who is the current Raiders quarterback on X, "The new version of Kirk cousins, but even more budget conscious because he only has college money right now."
Another fan shared that Mendoza's mind is on football not anything flashy when it comes to clothes.

Mendoza notably stayed back to take in his moment with his family, as his mother has MS (Multiple Sclerosis). He shared that the night would be easier for him and his family if they were to celebrate in their home. After being drafted, he shared that he had an emotional moment with his mom.
"Heard my mom say, 'I'm so proud of you' and that kind of broke me there," Mendoza said via Zoom after being drafted, per the Raiders official site.
Even though Mendoza won the 2025 Heisman Trophy after leading Indiana to their first-ever National Championship, becoming the first football star to be a Heisman recipient, and going No. 1 in the 2026 NFL Draft, he shared that he still going to be putting in the work.
"I believe I'm still the underdog," Mendoza said. "Although the draft was today .... although I was picked today one out of 32 - I'm not one out of 32 quarterbacks at this moment. So, I need to work every single day possible, because I'm on the bottom of the totem pole. ... I've go to first earn the respect to my teammates, earn that equity, and I've also just got to immerse, and I'm just ready to do whatever the team needs and calls me to do to help them win."
