Farrington's girls discus team excelled at the HHSAA Track & Field Championships before weather forced the cancellation of remaining events. Their marks may secure a 1-2-3 sweep if finals are not rescheduled.
Safety was the order of the day Friday at Kunuiakea Stadium on the Kamehameheha campus, site of the 2026 Island Movers/HHSAA Track & Field Championships.
At 1:18 p.m., per protocol, all student-athletes, coaches and spectators were ordered to take cover for at least 30 minutes due to thunder and lightning. With strikes occuring more than once every every 30 minutes, Hawaii High School Athletic Association officials announced that the day’s remaining activities would be canceled.
Finals, with a schedule to be determined, were slated to start at 9 a.m. today, weather permitting. The new schedule of events was not known late Friday afternoon, but would likely include elimination of at least some trials, especially if bad weather continued.
However, any marks achieved Friday would stand. That means Farrington’s girls could have a 1-2-3 sweep in the discus if there is no time for finals today, since its finals were scheduled for Friday.
Cassera Togia White (151 feet, 1 inch), Shakina Kim (130-3) and Ana Tautofi (123-5) finished in that order after three throws each. Togia White came in with a beat throw of 161-1, but it appears she won’t have another shot at Joan Gago of Campbell’s record of 160-3 that has stood since 1982.
“We’re very pleased, except for the weather, of course,” Farrington girls coach Earl Kamau said. “The girls have been working toward this since November.”
The Farrington girls received 24 team points, followed by Molokai with 4, Kamehameha 2 and Kalani 1. That’s for just one of 17 events, though, and it was not known Friday how many events could be completed today.
No other events were completed Friday, including the boys shot put, which was scheduled to be finished, and where Kamehemeha’s Kalei Harbottle was aiming for the meet record of Punahou’s Kaione Crabb (59-8.75). Harbottle achieved a personal best of 64-3.75 at last week’s Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships.
Moanalua’s boys and Konawaena’s girls are the defending team state champions.

The championships were postponed due to thunder and lightning, prompting officials to cancel the day's remaining activities for safety.
Cassera Togia White, Shakina Kim, and Ana Tautofi were the top performers, finishing with throws of 151 feet 1 inch, 130 feet 3 inches, and 123 feet 5 inches, respectively.
The marks achieved by Farrington's girls will stand, potentially allowing them to secure a 1-2-3 sweep in the discus event if finals are not held due to weather.
