The football world woke up on Wednesday morning still in shock over the night before’s epic 5-4 victory for Paris Saint-Germain against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinal first leg.
While there were many talking points to take from a game many have rushed to call the best of all time, among the pick of them was Harry Kane’s performance.
The Englishman decided against sticking around in the Premier League at relegation threatened Tottenham Hotspur and becoming the championship’s all time top scorer. Instead, he dared to be great at Bayern Munich winning the silverware that had previously eluded him.
If things go his way, Kane could be a UCL and Ballon d’Or holder by the time the year is out. Bayern of course have to overturn that deficit in the Allianz Arena next week to make that happen, but Kane’s goal and assist performance in which he proved himself to be elite and topped many stats gave them a good chance of doing so after trailing 5-2 at one point.
According to SPORT, the Catalans didn’t take advantage of a “window of opportunity” to sign Kane in December.

There were contacts between the relevant parties then, when Kane had an exit clause of €60 million for this summer at a time he’ll have some 12 months or less before his contract expires on June 30, 2027.
That clause was only valid in January, however, and as things stand Kane could renew with the Bavarians while closing out a season which has already seen him net a staggering 56 goals in 44 games.
What hurts the most for Barca is that they could have landed a relatively cheap ‘killer’ for three or four times less than what Julian Alvarez will cost from Atletico Madrid.
Put simply, Barca don’t have the kind of cash it will take to land the Argentine, who is tied down until 2030 at a direct rival that will be reluctant to see him wind up in Catalonia.
With Kane, FC Barcelona could’ve repeated the Robert Lewandowski operation by landing a proven product still at the height of his powers and squeezing a few more prime years out of his peak.
It looks like another one to lament what could have been.
