FC Bayern Women remain unbeaten after late comeback
FC Bayern Women maintained their unbeaten record in the Google Pixel Bundesliga with a late comeback to draw 1-1 at home to Hoffenheim on Wednesday. Selina Cerci put the visitors ahead just before half-time. It then took until the 89th minute for Magdelena Eriksson to hit the long overdue equaliser in the penultimate home fixture of the season.
The first half saw plenty of challenges in midfield before the first shot from Momoko Tanikawa after 14 minutes, but she fired over. Laura Dick was later able to catch a Vanessa Gilles header bound for the top corner. Bayern soon took control of play and had the next chance with Katharina Naschenweng’s effort across goal. Franziska Kett’s volley also failed to hit the target. Hoffenheim made the most of their first attempt when Cerci ran onto a perfectly weighted through ball, touched the ball past Ena Mahmutovic and into the net on the stroke of half-time.
Bayern continued to dominate after the restart and camped themselves in the Hoffenheim half. Kett and both had attempts that led to nothing, while volleyed over from a promising position and Eriksson was denied with a header. Substitute injected further energy into the team as she fired wide across goal. But it was centre-back Eriksson who finally got the equaliser in the dying minutes when she got on the end of Bühl’s cross and headed in via the leg of a defender attempting to clear on the line.
The final score was 1-1, with FC Bayern Women equalizing in the 89th minute.
