FC Utrecht bring in Telstar head coach to replace Ron Jans for the 2026/2027 season
FC Utrecht have announced that the highly rated Telstar head coach Anthony Correia will be their new head coach for the 2026/2027 season. With Ron Jans having announced that he will be retiring at the end of the season, Utrecht have moved to bring in the Telstar man who has signed a three-year-deal with the club.
Correia played for Telstar and then joined the coaching staff, making the move to head coach in 2024. He immediately brought success, leading the side to an unlikely promotion via the play-offs. Many expected that Telstar would be certain to return to the Dutch second tier, but Correia and his side have so far defied the odds. With just four games to go, the side are currently two points above the automatic drop zone and in with a chance of returning to the Eredivisie next season. If they finish in their current spot they will be back in the play-offs, this time trying to defend their current position.
Even if Telstar do return to the play-offs, avoiding automatic relegation is a huge achievement in itself. Many will now be wondering if Correia can replicate that success at a bigger Dutch side. Under Jans, Utrecht made a return to European football last season. The side are currently seventh in the Eredivisie and certainly have a chance via the play-offs to make their way back to continental football.
