Fernandes release clause revealed as Man United captain seeks assurances over ambition

Bruno Fernandes wants assurances over Manchester United’s ambition before committing to a new contract at Old Trafford.

Fernandes will enter the final 12 months of his deal with the Red Devils in the summer, at which point the club are keen to agree an extension.

The 31-year-old has had a spectacular season, scoring eight Premier League goals and adding 19 assists. He needs just one more assist to equal the Premier League’s single-season assist record, held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Fernandes’s form has helped Manchester United to the brink of Champions League qualification, and he now wants assurances over the club’s ability to compete for trophies.

Last week, Fernandes, who has only won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his six-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, told The Wayne Rooney Show that he wants to win the biggest trophies.

“I want to win the Premier League. I want to win the Champions League. I never hide from that.”” the midfielder said.

The Telegraph are reporting that Fernandes will seek assurances over ambition and investment before signing an extension. There is a €65m release clause in his contract, which clubs are considering. There is long-standing interest in the club captain from the Saudi Pro League.
