Ferrari, according to a new report, was interested in signing Red Bullâs race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, who has been with Max Verstappen throughout Verstappenâs multiple title runs.
Lambiase is moving on to McLaren in two years, following the expiration of his deal with Red Bull. However, in the aftermath of his move, it has been revealed that Lambiase was a target of Ferrari.
As the team sought to improve its technical leadership, Ferrari attempted to acquire Lambiase, according to journalist Robert Chinchero, but the deal fell through.
Lambiase has been highly regarded around the paddock as one of the sportâs sharper technical minds, and his success alongside Verstappen has certainly raised his profile.

Naturally, as his reputation has grown, Lambiase has been no stranger to interest from other teams, and per Chincero, there was serious interest from Ferrari.
âI know he had also had contacts with Ferrari two years ago,â Chinchero said. âI think thereâs an advantage if youâre in the English motorsport valley.
âIf you have a great professional opportunity, something that changes your life, you donât have to move your family, your house, your children, the same schools, everything.
âComing to Maranello is another story. You have to move your family, you have to move everything, you have to change languages.
âI mean, maybe once upon a time, Ferrari could count on the salary, but today this bonus is reserved for a couple of figures who are outside the budget cap. The rest, youâre in the budget cap, you can no longer afford to pay more than the competition pays.â
Ferrari aimed to enhance its technical leadership by acquiring Lambiase, recognized as one of the sport's top technical minds.
Lambiase is scheduled to join McLaren in two years, after his contract with Red Bull expires.
Lambiase is known for his successful partnership with Max Verstappen during his multiple title runs, elevating his reputation in the paddock.

With so many teams based in England, moving to Italy to work for Ferrari certainly brings a good deal of challenges.
Seemingly, circumstances that could not be changed or improved made the move not possible for Lambiase.
His patient, in the end, paid off, as he secured a promotion with McLaren, which is British-based and will not require an upheaval in his life to make the move.
Ferrari has been in a title drought for years, and in their pursuit of a new dynasty, they have seemingly been hoping to poach the best talent around the grid, but their roots in Italy have been a notable roadblock.
Now, they will have to watch Lambiase work at McLaren, a rival competitor at the top of the sport.
