Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever suffered a devastating 104-102 loss to the Washington Mystics on Friday night.
Although the Fever overcame a nine-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to force overtime (thanks to a heroic fall-away three on the left wing from Clark in the final seconds of regulation), Indiana ultimately landed on the wrong end of an exhilarating 104-102 finish.
On the bright side, for Clark at least, the former Iowa star point guard made WNBA history in the Fever’s crushing two-point home loss.
“Caitlin Clark continues making WNBA history,” DraftKings stated on Facebook. “She is the first player in league history to record 75+ points and 20+ assists through the first three games of a season. In tonight’s 104-102 OT loss to Washington, she finished with 32 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and two steals.”
There’s no question that Clark was eager to return to her prolific scoring and distributing ways in 2026 following an injury-riddled 2025 campaign. Clark, who appeared in 40 games with the Fever as a rookie in 2024, was limited to 13 games in Year 2 due to a quadriceps and groin injury that caused her to be in-and-out of Stephanie White’s lineup.
Still, the 24-year-old averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game (granted, her shooting splits were below average, and she committed 5.1 turnovers per game).
Clark is contributing a career-best 22.0 points to go along with 8.0 assists so far this season. That said, the 24-year-old high usage/playmaker and high volume perimeter shooter must improve her 18.8% three-point shooting percentage and limit her half-court blunders (5.5 turnovers nightly) for the Fever to have any shot of going the distance this year.
