FIFA releases new 2026 World Cup tickets as resale prices drop
FIFA announced it is dropping a new batch of 2026 World Cup tickets on Thursday, May 7, starting at 12 p.m. ET.
The new release comes amid a clear pattern of prices falling on third-party resale sites for the tournament, which kicks off on June 11 and will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
FIFA has been under intense criticism for the prices of tickets at the World Cup, which are significantly higher than previous editions of the tournament.
The global governing body has been releasing tickets for the 104 games on a rolling basis since the "last-minute" sales phase began on April 1. The last-minute phase sees fans able to buy World Cup tickets on a first-come, first-served basis atΒ FIFA.com/tickets.
FIFA also has its own resale marketplace, which it says guarantees fans a secure environment to buy and sell tickets. Outside of FIFA's marketplace, ticket prices on other resale platforms appear to be falling.
According to TicketData.com, which tracks prices across a number of resellers including StubHub, SeatGeek and Vivid Seats, the get-in price (aka the cheapest available ticket) for 87 of the 91 matches in the U.S. and Canada has fallen over the past 14 days.

The new tickets will be released on May 7, starting at 12 p.m. ET.
Resale prices are dropping due to a clear pattern observed on third-party sites, coinciding with FIFA's new ticket release.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The get-in price for the United States' opener against Paraguay in Los Angeles is now below $1,000, per TicketData. The match at SoFi Stadium has been one of the most expensive in the entire tournament.
The Athletic reported last month that sales for the June 12 game had been lagging, with more tickets sold for an Iran-New Zealand match three days later at the same stadium.
There are now four matches in the group stage with a get-in price below $200: Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia in Houston, Austria vs. Jordan in Santa Clara, Algeria vs. Austria in Kansas City and Bosnia/Herzegovina vs. Qatar in Seattle.
Earlier this week, FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended the high cost of 2026 World Cup tickets by claiming they are justified in the U.S. market.
βWe have to look at the market β we are in the market in which entertainment is the most developed in the world. So we have to apply market rates,β Infantino said at the Milken Institute Global Conference.
Donald Trump also addressed the $1,000 get-in price for the USMNT opener, telling the New York Post that he "wouldn't pay it either, to be honest with you."Despite the outcry over ticket prices, Infantino said thatΒ FIFA has received more than 500 million ticket requests for 2026, compared with fewer than 50 million combined for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
