North Dakota defeated South Dakota 9-1 in Game 2, evening the series at one game each. Taya Hopfauf led with six RBIs for UND, while South Dakota managed only one run.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (USD) — The bats were hot for the home squad Sunday afternoon in Game 2 of the three-game set from Albrecht Field, as South Dakota was unable to keep up with North Dakota in a 9-1 five inning defeat that evens the series at one game apiece.
PITCHING DECISIONS
**Win:**Teagan Livesay (11-6)
Loss:Peyton Paulsen (3-9)
It was the hot bat of North Dakota’s Taya Hopfauf who drove in six of UND’s nine runs on the day with a bases clearing double and a two RBI single.
South Dakota got the first run of the day in the top of the first inning. **Autumn Iversen**picked up what would be the lone hit for the Yotes on the day with a lead-off single in the first inning. Thanks to three pitching miscues between the UND battery, Iversen advanced all the way around the bases and scored on a wild pitch.
The Fighting Hawks picked up a run in the bottom half of the frame to even it at 1-1 through one inning of play.
UND would erupt for four runs in the second inning to take control of the game. Enough that South Dakota would not be able to claw back.
In the top of the fourth, the Yotes got a pair of base runners on but could not get a run in to chip away at the UND lead. The Fighting Hawks continued with the hot bats in the bottom half, picking up two more runs to extend their lead up to 7-1 through four innings of play.
A pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning would see the game end after five innings. Now each team having a run-rule victory against each other to start this series.
**UP NEXT:**The rubber match of the series is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch tomorrow from Albrecht Field on Midco Sports and the Summit League Network.
