The 2025-26 season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers, which means it is the time to look back on the season that was for each player. The Sixers finished 45-37 and as the No. 7 seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs before upsetting the Boston Celtics in Round 1 and falling to the New York Knicks in Round 2. They had to battle through a tough season injury-wise, but there were some good moments for everybody on the roster.
Up next in this series is VJ Edgecombe, who turned in one helluva rookie season. He played in 75 games as he was available for the Sixers night in and night out and made sure that he was going to be there for this group when they needed it. He averaged 35.0 minutes per night, too, as the Sixers made sure he got a lot out of his rookie season.

The rookie made a splash in his debut as he dropped 34 points on opening night to defeat the Boston Celtics on the road. It was the first of three 30-plus point games on the season, with his season-high of 38 points coming in a March 19 road win over the Sacramento Kings. He had a big moment in a Dec. 30 road win over the Memphis Grizzlies when he had 25 points and drilled the game-winning 3 to lift Philadelphia to an overtime win. He was poised all season and was never afraid of any big moment, which was the most impressive part of his rookie season.
Edgecombe made more history in the playoffs when he had 30 points and 10 rebounds in a Game 2 win over the Celtics in Round 1. He shot 6-for-10 from deep in that win and became the first rookie to have 30 and 10 in a playoff game since Tim Duncan in 1998. He was fantastic in every sense of the word and the Sixers were able to benefit from his fantastic performance. His playoffs weren't great as he shot only 29.2% from deep in 11 postseason games, but the experience will help him in the future.
Edgecombe is one of those "ones". He has the makings of a perennial All-Star in this league and figures to get better on an annual basis. He has a maniacal work ethic, plays in the same backcourt as Tyrese Maxey--who will match his work ethic--and the two of them figure to be the ones to lead the Sixers into the next era. Edgecombe was terrific in every sense of the word as a player in his maiden NBA season.
