Manchester City to travel to Hong Kong as part of 2026/27 preseason tour
We’ll face Italian giants Inter there in our first preseason outing ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
It’s a game that will conjure up plenty of memories of the 2023 Champions League final, when Rodri’s second-half finish was enough to seal a historic win.
Played as part of the Hong Kong Football Festival, presented by Asahi Super Dry, the game will see two of Europe’s best go head to head again.
While all the focus will be on readying ourselves for the new term, we’ll also be taking in the magnificent metropolis of Hong Kong and saying hello to plenty of fans in the Kai Tak Stadium.

Recent opening
Work started on the Kai Tak Stadium in 2019 and was completed in 2024.
Situated just off the water in the east of the city, it offers stunning views of Kowloon Bay.
Designed around the theme of the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, the outside has pearlescent hues, adding a prominent feature to Hong Kong’s iconic skyline.
It contains 50,000 seats and a retractable roof while the pitch can be made suitable for a number of a different events.
Historic setting
The stadium is built on the old car park of the famous Kai Tak airport, which serviced Hong Kong from 1925 until 1998.
The airport was globally renowned due to the incredible route planes would have to take in order to land on its runway.
Owing to the geography of the area with water on three sides of the runway and mountains to the north-east, planes would have to have to make a low-altitude approach past tall apartment blocks.
This led to some iconic images of aircrafts seemingly hovering just above the top of the city’s buildings.

Hong Kong’s national side have used the stadium during qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup, with the opening game at the stadium a 1-0 win over India in front of 42,570 fans last June.
There were two preseason games ahead of the current 2025/26 season too, with AC Milan beating Liverpool 4-2 on 26 July before Spurs beat Arsenal 1-0 a few days later.
Both games, as well as each of Hong Kong’s qualifiers, have sold out.

The stadium itself is part of a wider sports park that includes two indoor multi-purpose venues – one with 10,000 seats and another with 500 – as well as the Youth Sports Ground, which has 5,000 seats and an athletics track.
There are several spaces for events and fans to gather too.
Huge concerts
The stadium has played host to many of Asia’s biggest music stars, including K-Pop phenomenons Blackpink and Seventeen.
The first gigs to be held there however were performed by Coldplay as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour in April 2025.
