It was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of the season for Barcelona and manager Hansi Flick, as a huge 2-0 El Clasico victory over Real Madrid sealed the La Liga for the club.
But behind the celebrations and joy at Camp Nou, Flick was going through one of the most emotional and painful moments of his life.
Just hours before the match kicked off, the Barcelona manager received devastating personal news as his father passed away.
Despite the heartbreak, Flick remained on the touchline and guided his side through one of the biggest matches of the season.
The emotions after the final whistle were impossible to hide.
Speaking after the victory, the German coach admitted that this would be a day he would never forget.
Flick also took the opportunity to thank everyone at the club who stood by him during such a difficult moment.
âIt was a tough match and Iâll never forget this day. I want to thank the squad, the president, the vice-president, Deco and everyone who has supported us.
âIn the end, the most important thing is that Iâm very proud to have such a good team. Thank you for that determination to fight for the full 90 minutes.
âWe must celebrate this. Visca Barça and Visca Catalunya.â

The victory over Real Madrid was another statement performance from Barcelona, who have looked increasingly dominant in the final stretch of the campaign.
Flick praised both the mentality and defensive organisation of his team after the match.
âItâs fantastic to have won La Liga in El ClĂĄsico against Real Madrid. It wasnât easy; theyâre a great team. Iâm very proud of my players.
âWe played and defended very well against a great team. Iâm proud â what can I say? The atmosphere in this dressing room is fabulous. Iâm happy in Barcelona.â
Even with injuries affecting the squad throughout the season, Barcelona have continued to find consistency when it mattered most.
âInjuries havenât made it easy for us, but even so, weâve been fantastic. Weâve played very well in this final stretch of the league. Weâve done well in defence.â
Flick highlighted the performances of several defenders while also praising the depth available on the bench.
âCubarsi, Gerard Martin, Eric⌠Theyâve been fantastic. And Iâve been able to make use of the bench because there were so many players available. It might take a few weeks⌠but weâre happy.
âAnd now we want to reach 100 points. That said, the players deserve a celebration now. And next year weâre going to try to win the Champions League.â

Flick also spoke about the unity inside the Barcelona squad and explained why he has enjoyed working at the club since arriving earlier in the season.
âItâs not easy. You have to manage things. At the start of the season, I spoke about egos, but then what I saw in training gave me a very good feeling.â
Later in the interview, the Barcelona coach emotionally revealed how he informed the players about his fatherâs passing before the game.
âYes. My mum called to tell me that my dad had passed away. I have a good relationship with the players, and I wanted to tell them.
âItâs not easy to speak on a day like today. But the playersâ reaction has been spectacular.â
The emotional scenes continued after the match when several Barcelona players celebrated with Flick.
As the emotions became overwhelming, Flick struggled to hold back tears while responding.
âIâm very proud because everyone feels part of this and is connected. Itâs difficult for me to talk about this today, but Iâm happy. Thank you (he gets emotional),â he concluded.
