Bomani Jones says modern media landscape makes it difficult to give career advice
Bomani Jones discusses the challenges of giving career advice in today's sports media landscape.
Former Jacksonville Dolphins basketball player Jaylen Jordon committed to the Florida football program on Friday, two days after a scholarship offer was extended to him.
The 6-foot-6-inch, 240-pound prospect wrapped up his college hoops career with the Dolphins last season before attending UF's Pro Day back in March. It was there that he caught the eyes of both NFL scouts and the Gators' staff while taking reps at tight end.
"I got a lot of feedback from NFL teams, and got Florida's eyes on me and my potential," Jordon told Swamp247.
Although he sustained a quad injury during the workouts, the results were impressive enough to earn an offer from the Orange and Blue. With his commitment comes a year of eligibility as a graduate student at the university.
"I'm planning on using that as a stepping stone to get re-acclimated to the sport and its high demand," he noted.
There were prior discussions with Florida's staff through Jordon's representation that ultimately led to his Wednesday visit, during which he spent time with head coach Jon Sumrall, tight ends coach Evan McKissack and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner getting acclimated to how the program is run.
"We spent our meeting time learning instead of watching slides. I learned some hand signals to get a glimpse of what our sessions would be like if I was to come there."
The native of Hilliard, Florida — which is nestled between Jacksonville and the Florida-Georgia border — began his college basketball career with the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes before transferring to the Flagler College Saints for his junior season. After his second collegiate transfer, the prospective future tight end averaged 3.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game during his senior campaign at Jacksonville last season.
Jordon has no previous background on the gridiron, but does have a tangential connection to the Gators. According to his Georgia Southwestern bio, before college he played at the Speights Academy, which is run by former Florida hoops standout and 10-year NBA veteran Marreese Speights.
