Florida softball advances to the Gainesville Regional finals after securing its second run-rule victory in as many days, this time over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday morning at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, 8-0.
The Gators have yet to allow a run so far this weekend after mercy-ruling the Florida A&M Aggies on Thursday, 12-0. Kegan Rothrock tossed five scoreless frames against Georgia Tech, allowing four hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out four, giving her eight scoreless frames so far this weekend.
It took a couple of innings for Florida's offense to heat up, but once Kenleigh Cahalan broke the ice with her three-run home run in the top of the third, it was off to the races for the Orange and Blue. The Gators added another run that inning on an RBI triple by Cassidy McLellan, then followed that up with a three-run fourth that saw an RBI double from Ava Brown, plus an RBI single and a steal of home by Townsen Thomas.
Florida got its final run on a bases-loaded walk by Brown in the top of the fifth.
The Gators now await the winner from Saturday's two loser's brackets and will face whoever emerges on Sunday afternoon in the championship game slated for noon ET. If Florida loses, they still get another chance in the double-elimination tournament at 2:30 p.m. ET.
