Florida State Seminoles defeated Pittsburgh Panthers 6-4, completing a three-game series sweep. The Seminoles improved their season record to 33-14 and 24-3 at home.
The No. 14 Florida State Seminoles wrapped up their three-game series with the Pittsburgh Panthers with a win on Sunday at Dick Howser Stadium, completing the sweep. They have advanced to 33-14 (15-9 ACC) on the season, and are now 24-3 at home.
In the first inning, Pitt got on the board thanks to a Trey Fenderson single to center field that allowed Caden Dulin to score. Pitt's AJ Nessler hit a homer in the top of the second, making it 2-0.
FSU responded with a John Stuetzer grounder, and Gabe Fraser scored to make it a 2-1 game at the bottom of the second.
Pitt took a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Nessler reached, and Sebastian Pisacreta scored on a fielder's choice with an error from Payton Manca. Caden Dulin would single him home for an RBI, with Derrick Tarpley Jr. coming in from second on an unearned run.
Stuetzer singled in the bottom of the fourth, and Carter McCulley scored from second to make it a 4-2 game in favor of Duke. Eli Putnam kept it going with a single to shallow right field, scoring Hunter Carns and making it a 4-3 Pitt lead in the fifth inning.
FSU tied the game in the sixth inning as Carter McCulley started the inning with a home run. Brayden Dowd reached on a single before scoring on a triple by Brody DeLamielleure, giving FSU its first lead of the game. Cars made it a 6-4 game with an infield single.
That was the end of the scoring, as in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, Pitt did not score another run. Chris Kneir got all three outs needed in the top of the ninth to complete the win. He did not allow a run in four innings, allowing just one hit.
The Seminoles will look to extend their winning streak when they welcome the Jacksonville Dolphins for a match on Tuesday. Fans can catch that game on the ACC Network Extra at 6:00 p.m. ET.
