More Black Aces are on the way for the Philadelphia Flyers. The team officially announced they’ve recalled 5 players from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms since their season ended.
Joining the Flyers in their playoff push are: goalie Carson Bjarnason, defensemen Hunter McDonald and Helge Grans, and forwards Oscar Eklind and Jacob Gaucher. Of the group, only Eklind and Bjarnason have yet to make their NHL debuts.
Bjarnason has been up and down a few times this season, mostly for practices as an extra goaltender. Grans last appeared in the NHL in late November of 2024. Since then, he has remained with the Phantoms. Like Bjarnason, McDonald had been up for a few practices, but did not play in a game until the season finale vs. the Canadiens.
Jacob Gaucher was also part of the regular-season finale lineup but was loaned back after the game. Oscar Eklind has played the last two seasons with the Phantoms, but has never been called up.
For all 5 players, playing seems more than unlikely. At this point, the Flyers can field nearly a full second team at the NHL level, with the Phantoms no longer playing. The plethora of Black Aces will give the Flyers a squad to practice against.
