While not every result fell their way, the Philadelphia Flyers got the most favorable result on Sunday.
After the Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the Boston Bruins, the message is simple: if the Flyers win on Monday, they punch their ticket to the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
That’s right. The Philadelphia Flyers’ magic number is now just two games.
With their loss on Sunday, the New York Islanders have been eliminated from the postseason race. The Capitals’ win kept them in the race at 93 points. Columbus remains in the fight at 92 points.
However, both teams have played 81 games, leaving just two points on the table.
The Flyers have 94 points, meaning a win on Monday puts them at 96 points. That separates them enough from the Capitals, 93 points, to clinch a postseason position.
If the Philadelphia beats the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, they will be in the playoffs.
In the event that they lose on Monday, then the 3rd spot in the Metropolitan Division goes to Game 82. If the Flyers lose on Monday and fail to earn a point on Tuesday, then the winner of the Blue Jackets vs. Capitals game makes the playoffs.
However, all of that can be a moot point if the Flyers win on Monday. Win, and the Philadelphia is in, breaking its 5-year postseason drought.
