Flyers vs. Penguins Game 2: Flyers take 2-0 lead in series

For most of the season, the Flyers didn’t look like a playoff hockey team.

For the first two games of the postseason, they look to be built for the playoffs.

The Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 on April 20, securing a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. A pair of second period goals, solid defensive play and great goaltending when needed from Dan Vladar has the Flyers two games from moving on to the second round.

For the second straight game, the teams played to a scoreless tie in the first period, and for the second game in a row, the Flyers drew first blood in the second period. Porter Martone put the Flyers on the board midway through the period with his second of the postseason. Garnet Hathaway added one late in the period to give the Flyers a cushion going into the third period.

Luke Glendening added an empty net goal to put the game on ice.

Vladar made the goals stand up. He became the second goalie to shutout the Penguins in a postseason game with Sidney Crosby on the Penguins. The other was in 2008, when Hendrik Lundqvist did it for the Rangers.

Game 3 of the series moves to Philly on Wednesday at 7 p.m. That game could be fun as both teams combined for some rough stuff in the final seconds of the game.
