Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings agreed to a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. While his free agency lasted longer than he probably anticipated, there wasn't a lack of interest in the 29-year-old.
ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday in an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show indicated three other teams aside from Minnesota were interested in Jennings' services. Schefter said the Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs were all among the teams vying for the free agent receiver. Per Schefter the Vikings were the only team Jennings had a visit with.
It's not a surprise there was real interest in Jennings, who became a go-to third down receiver for the 49ers over the course of his career. He also went from a background role in their receiving corps to a prominent piece at the top of the depth chart over the last couple seasons as injuries hit the team at his position.
There's always a small wave of free agency signings after the NFL draft when the compensatory pick formula is no longer in play and teams have a better idea of what holes they need to fill after making their draft picks. Miami, Washington and Kansas City are all teams who could use a reliable third or fourth receiver like Jennings, but it was the Vikings who ultimately wooed him to their club.
