Former Barnsley CEO’s bankruptcy petition delayed: RWDM given extended time for John Textor to sell the club
The hearing on the RWDM bankruptcy petition filed by the sides former CEO Gauthier Ganaye has been postponed. The Brussels club, who are owned by John Textor, now have until the 1st of June to prove they have the finances to keep operating as a football club. As reported by Sudinfo, there are two parties said to be interested in buying the club and now fans will be hoping that things move quickly to keep the side in existence.
According to Ganaye, who has also head positions at Barnsley and Oostende in the past, RWDM owe him severance pay for when te left the club in May 2024. In the summer of 2025 a ruling in his favour meant that RWDM had to make the payment, which has still not been paid.
RWDM are also involved in a legal battle with the Belgian Pro League. After their defeat to Kortrijk last Friday, the side ended up being relegated from the second tier of Belgian football. However, they finished outside of the relegation places and above three other teams. The problem for RWDM was that all three of these sides were academy teams of Pro League sides, and the rules state that a U23 team can only be relegated if another U23 is able to be promoted to take its place. As no U23 are set to be promoted, RWDM, who have 12 points more than Club Brugge NXT, the team in the relegation spot, are set to be relegated.
