But there’s been question marks over whether he wants to take the role or not, due to Chelsea’s owners and how they run the club. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and to be honest, there has been so much toxicity around it lately that it’s hard to know why anyone would want to take the hot seat at Stamford Bridge right now.
But Wyness thinks Alonso could perhaps help to change Chelsea’s failing project…
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s Xavi’s agent trying to push his name.
“I don’t think he’s the right fit for the Chelsea culture. He’s not the right fit personally and for lots of reasons.
“[Xabi] Alonso is the one with much more experience. His spell in Germany was excellent, and he’s one that can garner the trust of the owners and set a strategy and perhaps get over this whole idea of buying as many young players as possible on long-term contracts.
“Xabi’s been around. He’s a very clever man, very intelligent guy, very personable and a great thinker. Chelsea would be very lucky to have him, and they should be biting his hand off, if they can get a chance to get him.”
Como’s Jacobo Ramon is being linked with a number of top clubs, and Chelsea offer him a chance to start pretty quickly, putting them ahead of other possible options.
