Justyn Ross just had one of those games that makes Clemson fans stop scrolling and go, âwait, he just did what?â
The former Clemson wide receiver went off for the Birmingham Stallions, catching seven passes for 135 yards and a touchdown in a monster UFL performance. He also added 52 yards after the catch, which might be the best part of the whole thing. Ross was not just catching the ball and falling. He was moving, creating,, and looking like the guy Clemson fans remember being absolutely terrified for opposing defensive backs and the All-ACC honorable mentionee of 2019.
The UFL account had fun with it, writing that the Orlando Storm got âROSSED,â and honestly, yeah. That is about the right word for it. Seven catches, 135 yards, a score, and more than 50 yards after the catch is not a quiet good game. That is a âturn the highlights back onâ elite performance.
Ross has now put together a strong start to his UFL season with Birmingham. Through five games, he has 20 catches for 312 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 15.6 yards per reception. For a player whose career has been one long fight to get back to full speed, it feels like more than just a box score.
Clemson fans do not need a history lesson on why Ross still matters. They saw the freshman version of him look like a future NFL star in real time. They saw him ruin Alabamaâs night in the national championship game. They saw the body control, the hands, the âhow did he catch that?â moments and the easy big-play ability that made him feel like Clemsonâs next great receiver.
Then injuries changed the whole path. A congenital spinal condition forced him to miss the 2020 season, and a later foot injury added more concern before the 2022 NFL Draft. Ross ended up going undrafted before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, and since then, every opportunity has felt like another attempt to prove the talent is still in there for him to go back after

I'm not saying one UFL performance suddenly rewrites everything, but come on. Seven catches for 135 yards and a touchdown is exactly the kind of reminder people wanted to see from Ross. The hands are still there. The playmaking is still there. The ability to turn a normal catch into a chunk play is still there.
For Clemson fans, this is the easy kind of former Tiger update to love. Ross has been through more than enough, and watching him go out there and cook a defense again feels good. The stage is different, but the name still hits home.
