While the Chicago Cubs have managed to contend for the National League Central, only sitting a single game behind the Cincinnati Reds, the team’s front office is still in the mood for making moves to improve the team.

One of those moves came earlier in the week, when Chicago decided to outright the likes of Vince Velasquez and Scott Kingery to their Triple-A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs.

Both players had struggled to get things going at Wrigley Field this season, with Kingery hitting a paltry .250/.250/.250 statline with only a hit to his name across eight games.

Velasquez, on the other hand, only made a single appearance for Chicago this season, going 2.1 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in late April.

Velasquez opts for free agency

While Kingery has decided to stick around Iowa, given that he appeared in the team’s match on Thursday night, the same can’t be said for his former teammate.
