Former Dodger Julio Urias, who hasn't pitched since 2023, may still have a chance to return to MLB, according to his agent Scott Boras. Urias completed his suspension for domestic violence earlier this year.
Julio UrĂas
Former Los Angeles Dodger Julio Urias hasnât pitched professionally since 2023, but agent Scott Boras recently indicated that his career may not be over.
Urias, who was twice suspended for domestic violence, was finished with his punishment after the first half of the 2025 season.
Boras told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times recently that Urias still has opportunities to return to the MLB.
âTeams ask me about him all the time,â Boras said. âWith the pitching market in this world, Julio could play in a minute. But I think itâs about him deciding if itâs something he wants to go do right now.â

After he finished his suspension, Urias was thought to be ready to play again.
âHe still has every intention to continue his career,â Boras told the LA Times last year. âHeâs getting in shape. Obviously, heâll have options that are open to him.â
Despite that assertion, Urias has only been seen throwing a baseball once since his second domestic violence arrest.
The Instagram account @beisbolpuro shared images on Jan. 26 of Urias throwing with children in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico.
So whatâs the current status of Uriasâ career? Boras told the Times he couldnât say if any team has offered him a contract.
âI have to have the authority from my client even to talk about the subject,â Boras said, âand I donât have that yet.â
Urias, at age 29, still has productive years in front of him, and his ceiling is elite.
In 2021 and 2022, Urias competed for the Cy Young Award, winning 20 games in 2021 and recording a 2.16 ERA in 2022.
In both seasons, his WAR was 4.6 or better, and advanced metrics from Baseball Savant show he was elite in multiple categories.
He was in the top 10% of pitchers in categories like walk percentage, hard-hit percentage, average exit velocity and pitching run value in 2021.
The next year, he remained in the top 10% in hard-hit percentage and pitching run value.
In 2023, however, he struggled. His ERA jumped up to 4.60 and his WAR fell to 0.6.
His walk rate was the only category in which he remained in top 10% of pitchers.
After nearly three years out of the MLB, itâs unclear who wants to sign Urias and, if they do, which version of the hurler theyâd get.
Julio Urias is currently a free agent and has not pitched professionally since 2023, but there are indications he may return to MLB.
Julio Urias was suspended for domestic violence, facing two separate suspensions during his career.
Julio Urias's agent is Scott Boras, who stated that Urias still has opportunities to return to Major League Baseball.
