Ahead of the 2026 season, Garcia signed with the New York Mets on a one-year, $1.75 million deal that could have ballooned to $3 million with incentives.
The Mets designated him for assignment this past weekend, meaning heās likely headed to free agency.
Garcia has struggled in 2026, recording an ERA of 7.11 in six games.
In 6.1 innings pitched, he allowed 11 hits and six runs, five of which were earned.
Heās also walked two batters while striking out four.
Itās a far cry from his time as a National last year.
Over 10 innings in 10 games, he had an ERA of 0.90 and allowed only five hits and two walks against seven strikeouts.
In his 20 games with the Angels, he had an ERA of 2.00 over 18 innings, striking out 17 and allowing 16 hits and eight walks.
His time with the Dodgers, though, wasnāt as smooth.
In his 28 games in Dodger Blue, Garcia pitched 27.1 innings and had an ERA of 5.27.
His strikeout to walk ratio, which was 3.50 for the Nats and 2.13 for the Angels, was much lower for the Dodgers at 1.50.
He also blew his lone save chance for the Boys in Blue.
Granted, he did miss some time with a right adductor strain while he was with the Dodgers, but his performance for Washington and the Angels was far superior, and that was after the injury.
His time with the Dodgers ended after a game against the Kansas City Royals in which he allowed three earned runs and could not finish the seventh inning.
If this was his last go-round in the majors, Garcia will have played 14 MLB seasons with a career ERA of 4.11 and 17 saves to his name.
Luis Garcia was released by the New York Mets following his performance and the team's decision to make roster changes.
