Owen Freeman, a former Iowa basketball star, has transferred to Auburn after a challenging season at Creighton. He previously earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors at Iowa before struggling with injuries.
After just one season with Creighton, which never truly got off the ground due to an offseason knee injury, former Iowa basketball forward/center Owen Freeman has committed to the Auburn Tigers as a result of his second trip through the transfer portal in as many years.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pounder out of Moline, Ill., was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year with the Hawkeyes in 2023-24, where he averaged 10.6 points on 61.4% shooting, to go along with 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.2 assists per game.
Freeman would improve on those numbers in his sophomore season by scoring 16.7 points on 63.8% shooting, pairing with 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.3 assists per game, but a broken finger forced him to play only 19 games before transferring.
This past year at Creighton, Freeman's previously mentioned knee injury unfortunately forced him to miss several weeks of practice at the beginning of the season, and he eventually averaged only 5.0 points on 60.2% shooting and 4.0 rebounds in 11:54 minutes across 26 games played.
As for his fit at Auburn, which is entering its second season under head coach Steven Pearl, Freeman will certainly provide the Tigers with valuable size and experience underneath the basket, a luxury the program did not have in the 2025-26 campaign.
