Leighann Goode, a former Texas Longhorn softball star, was drafted 8th overall by the Texas Volts in the AUSL Draft. She had a standout college career with a .316 batting average and 136 RBIs.
After four unforgettable years with the Texas Longhorns, Leighann Goode is taking her talents to AUSL. The former Longhorn star was drafted eighth overall by the Texas Volts on Monday night. While Goode will be joining a new organization, she will be staying in the Lone Star state as she looks to make a name for herself at the next level.
During her college career, Goode posted a .316 batting average in 215 games. The Texas native also drove in 136 runs and has been an on-base machine the last two seasons. While serving as a key piece of the Longhorns' offense, Goode showed some power with 37 doubles and 29 home runs.
Due to her play, Goode finished her time in Austin with an impressive resume. Her accolades include a Freshman of the Year Top 25 finish. She also was named an All-American as a Freshman and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. That is partly why Goode was a hard piece to take out of the lineup during her time in the burnt orange.
While the Sandra Day O'Connor Alumna made headlines by being a top ten pick, she wasn't the only Longhorn to hear their name called. That list includes Reese Atwood, who was selected seventh overall by the Carolina Blaze. Now, fans will have more of a reason to turn into AUSL games to keep tabs on two players who provided plenty of unforgettable moments in Austin.
Although Goode will not be an easy player to replace, she made the most of her time with the Longhorns. She also thrived in the postseason, which was on display last season when she hit a three-run homer in Game Three of the Women's College World Series.
With the playoffs just around the corner, Goode will have a few more chances to build on her success. Now she gets to do that without worrying about what comes next in her softball career.
