Josh Mauro, a defensive lineman who played eight seasons in the NFL, including one with the New York Giants, has died at the age of 35. No cause of death has been announced.
"With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new-living in the presence of the Lord—we humbly covet your prayers as our family walks through the devastating loss of our amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend," his father Greg Mauro wrote on Facebook.
Mauro, who was born in England and played his college football at Stanford, was a 6-foot-6, 290-pound defensive end who began his career in 2014 as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would also play for the Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars before retiring in 2021.
In 2018, his lone season with the Giants, Mauro played in 12 games, starting four, made 28 tackles, four for a loss, with one sack.
The Giants' community also learned that Bill Swain, a linebacker who played for them from 1965 to 1967, recently passed away at age 85.
Swain, who was an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in 1963, played 28 games for Big Blue and also had stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions.
