Thereās a lot to like about how Bo Nix has started his career with the Denver Broncos.
However, there's also reason to believe that his defense has carried him throughout much of his early career. It's almost unfair to say for a second-year quarterback who has already taken his team to the playoffs and won in a very difficult division, but that's just the reality of the situation right now.
Nix is also already 26 years old, so we have to factor that in.
Even with the strong early showings, Kurt Warner still believes there are things holding him back. More specifically, he believes there's one area in his game that's holding him back right now.
According to Erik Anderson of Heavy, Warner said that Nix needs to make more explosive plays.
"Warner said Nix is āa playmaker,ā does not make many mistakes and can make every throw. But he added that he would still like to see Nix stay in structure a little longer instead of drifting into movement too early. Warnerās concern was not that Nix cannot create. It was that Denver may be leaving too many explosive plays on the field when he leaves clean pockets before he has to," he wrote.
Patience in the pocket is a lot easier to accomplish than it might sound. There's a reason some quarterbacks in the NFL simply don't have it, and it's why many in the league don't find the success they're looking for.
On the other hand, it's important to note that, relatively speaking, Nix isn't exactly old at 26. He's only been in the league for two seasons, so there's something to be said about that.
If he continues to develop at the level he has over the past few years, there's reason to believe he can eventually get better in the pocket and make more explosive plays for a Broncos offense that could use a lot of it.
