Former New England Patriots pass rusher Anfernee Jennings is signing with the New Orleans Saints, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Sunday.
Jennings was a key rotational piece and spot-starter on defense for the Patriots before he was ultimately released this offseason. The 2020 third-round draft pick played in 75 games with 40 starts. He finished his run with the team, recording 217 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and three pass break-ups. He was released by the team on March 11, which saved the franchise $3.8 million in salary cap space.
Now, he gets a fresh start with the Saints.
There have been questions regarding the edge rushing depth for the Patriots. Along with Jennings, they also lost K'Lavon Chaisson in free agency.
So far this offseason, the Patriots have signed free agent edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones, along with using two of their draft picks on Illinois' Gabe Jacas and Boston College's Quintayvious Hutchins.
Jennings now heads to a young and rebuilding Saints roster in hopes of experiencing a similar turnaround like the Patriots had last season.
