The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Jack Jones, a former starting cornerback for the Raiders, has signed a one-year deal with the 49ers after stints with the Patriots and Dolphins. He previously started 19 games for the Raiders, recording five interceptions and 20 pass breakups.
Jack Jones has made a lot of stops entering his fifth year in the NFL. Originally a fourth round pick by the Patriots, he was cut in his second season and signed with the Raiders. Then cut again and signed with the Dolphins. And after one season there, the California native is returning to his home state to sign with the 49ers on a one-year deal.
It was just a year ago that Jones was a member of the Las Vegas Raiders. He was signed midway through the 2023 season, took over the starting job a few weeks later and held onto that job for the 2024 season as well. In total he appeared in 24 games with 19 starts for the Raiders, picking off five passes and breaking up an impressive 20 passes.
It was his former high school and college coach Antonio Pierce who brought him into the fold in 2023. And when Pierce kept the job in 2024, Jones kept his job as well. So, likewise when Pierce was fired after just one season, Jones was released as well.
The former fourth round pick then signed with the Miami Dolphins where he started every game last season, picking off one pass and breaking up six passes.
He's clearly a talented player, but his apparent non-talent related issues have now had three teams give up on him. Can he figure things out emotionally and stick with the 49ers? You always hope so with players as talented as he is.
