Former Real Madrid director drops brutal verdict on another trophyless season: āNot winning anything is a failureā
The fallout from Real Madridās Champions League exit continues to generate strong reactions, and former striker and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has now delivered a strong assessment of the clubās current situation.
Starting with the quarter-final defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, Mijatovic acknowledged the teamās performance but did not hide his frustration over key moments.
Reflecting on the match, he said, āMadrid played a very good game.
āIt was a preview of the final, and I really liked the impression they gaveāthatās the impression they should always project.
āI was angry with the referee and then also with Camavinga. UEFA referees donāt let anything slide, and you have to stay very focused,ā he began.
While the performance showed glimpses of quality, the elimination has only added to a bigger concern ā Real Madridās ongoing trophy drought.
Addressing the elephant in the room, Mijatovic made it clear that such a situation is unacceptable at a club of this magnitude:
āItās been two trophy-less years, and thatās always very serious for Madrid. Thatās why itās the biggest club in the world. Not winning anything is a failure.
āIn todayās football, you canāt always win, and we Madrid fans are spoiled. Winning six European Cups in recent years is something no one will ever do again.
āNow we have to rebuild the team to start winning again,ā he said.
Predrag Mijatovic stated that not winning any trophies is a failure for Real Madrid, reflecting on their recent performance.
Real Madrid played well but ultimately lost to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
The lack of trophies may lead to increased scrutiny on the team's management and players, as well as potential changes in strategy.

Mijatovic offered his view by recognising both the difficulty of the job and the effort shown so far:
āAlvaro joined us midway through the season. I liked Xabi Alonso, but he had a very difficult task.
āNo one can take away his enthusiasm, his dedication, and all the energy he put into every game. Weāll see what happens.ā
Perhaps the most striking part of his analysis came when discussing the squad itself.
Despite criticism aimed at stars like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr., Mijatovic dismissed the idea that they are the root of the problem.
Instead, he pointed to a deeper issue within the team,
āMbappe came here to score goals, and heās doing just that. Vinicius has had good seasons and steps up in big games, though he was unlucky the other day.
āHeāll have to change his attitude, and Iāve said that many times before. They accused me of having something against the kid, but there are things I donāt like.
āThat doesnāt diminish his importance to the team. Madrid lacks a leader on the field. The top scorer isnāt always the leader.
āFor example, Zidane was the best for a while, but Franceās leader was Deschamps. Now we need a Hierro, a Ramos, a RaĆŗl.
āSomeone who can do two or three things on the field and pull everything together.
A leader, a coach on the field. Madrid has excellent players, but I donāt see a figure whoāll say, āWhat the hell are you guys doing,ā he concluded.
