A.J. Pierzynski played for a lot of managers during his 19-year Major League career, suiting up for seven different teams during that time. One of them was the Boston Red Sox, where he spent part of the 2014 season.
While Pierzynski didn't play for Cora, he still has a ton of respect for him as a manager and believes he'll be difficult to replace after the Red Sox shockingly fired him on Saturday.
On Monday's episode of "Foul Territory," the former World Series champion and All-Star catcher explained what makes Cora so special.
"Alex Cora was one of the best guys I've ever seen at mixing the analytics and with the players and having communication with players," Pierzynski said.
Pierzynski also praised some of the other Boston coaches who were dismissed along with Cora.
"I know Jason Varitek was awesome. I played against him forever. I've known him forever. Awesome guy to have around," Pierzynski continued. "Ramon Vazquez, I've always had a great relationship with him."
