The Red Sox can thank Nathan Eovaldi for diminishing that deficit to single-digit games. For the second straight time, the Yankees had no answers for the former Red Sox starting pitcher.

The 36-year-old also tallied a season-high eight strikeouts a week after tossing another gem against the same opponent. On April 29, Eovaldi pitched seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 win over New York.
Eovaldi carved up the Yankees following a tumultuous start to the 2026 campaign. After posting a spectacular 1.73 ERA last season, Eovaldi began the new year by issuing a 5.79 ERA in his first six outings.
The two-time All-Star, who won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2021 and earned another ring in Texas two years later, allowed four home runs to the Athletics on April 24 before rebounding against the Yankees. He's lowered his season ERA to 4.15.
It's not a new phenomenon for Eovaldi, who now boasts a 2.94 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 140 2/3 career innings versus the Yankees. Unfortunately, Thursday's matinee is the last time the Yankees play the Rangers this season.
