Former Seahawks QB Russell Wilson played for the Savannah Bananas in a fun exhibition game at Yankee Stadium. Although he made contact, the Bananas lost to the Party Animals 7-2.
It's been an interesting few years (to say the least) for former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Since the 2022 season, the Super Bowl XLVIII champion has played for the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants. Now, it appears Wilson is getting back to his baseball roots and has found a new team...
...kinda.
Over the weekend, the veteran signal caller did suit up for a new team, although it was definitely just for fun. The team in question? The beloved Savannah Bananas!
The Bananas were playing a game against the Party Animals (a "rival" team) at Yankees Stadium. So naturally, why wouldn't they try to drum up some additional hype by bringing in a recognizable NFL player with a legitimate baseball history! Wilson's only at bat resulted in him getting out at first, but he did make contact with the ball! Ultimately, the Bananas lost the game 7-2.
Wilson is of course best known for his football career, but in another timeline, perhaps he could have been an MLB star. He was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2007, then later the Colorado Rockies in 2010 and began his professional baseball career in the state of Washington with the Tri-City Dust Devils. Eventually, his rights were acquired by the Texas Rangers, then later traded to the New York Yankees where he even played in a Spring Training game for them.

As of right now, Wilson is an unrestricted free agent, and he still intends to play in the upcoming 2026 season. But if no NFL team calls, at least we know there is a viable backup option for the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year.
