Former Pittsburgh Steelers general manager revealed that he is serving in an advisory role for Ohio State’s football team.
“I do some work with Ohio State evaluating their draft-eligible players and giving them an opinion as to whether they should enter the draft or stay for more development and so on and so forth,” Colbert said via Andrew Gillis of Yahoo Sports. “Right now, that’s the only college I’m working with. The rev share, salary cap stuff, they’re all learning. There’s some opportunities to maybe help in that, but again, the colleges are just trying to sort all that stuff out.”
Colbert served in a similar role at Colorado State, he told Pierre McGuire on Inside the Game. He isn’t the only former Steeler to join the Buckeyes, as former offensive coordinator Arthur Smith joined Ohio State in the same role.
Colbert was with the Steelers for over two decades, serving as Director of Football Operations from 2000-2010. His title changed to general manager in 2010, a role he held until 2022 before retiring and handing the reigns to Omar Khan.
Prior to joining the Steelers, Colbert was a scout for the Miami Dolphins from 1985-89, which was followed by a decade-long stint with the Detroit Lions as their pro scouting director from 1990-99.
