Every year, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announces the first round of picks in the NFL draft. On Day 2, the NFL turns things over to the legends, as each franchise picks a legend to take the stage at the draft to announce their team's draft choices in the second and third rounds.
The Washington Commanders hold the No. 7 overall pick, but do not have picks in the second and fourth rounds, due to last year's trade for star left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Washington still has one pick remaining on Day 2, in the third round, at No. 71 overall.
So, which Washington legend will announce that pick? The NFL revealed the names recently and former Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien will announce the 71st pick.
Rypien was a sixth-round pick out of Washington State in the 1986 NFL Draft. He spent the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the Redskins, becoming the starting quarterback in 1989. Rypien would make two Pro Bowls and was Washington's quarterback in 1991, when he passed for 3,564 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He led the Redskins to a Super Bowl win over the Buffalo Bills and was named Super Bowl XXVI MVP. He was named to the franchise's 90 Greatest list
In total, Rypien played 12 NFL seasons, including stints with the Browns, Rams, Eagles and Colts. He also signed with the Falcons and Seahawks, but never played for either team.
