Former Texas A&M star QB set to make boxing debut against influencer

Former Texas A&M quarterback and 2012 Heisman winner Johnny Manziel has officially taken his talents to a new sport: boxing. Brand Risk Promotions announced on Thursday that Manziel would face off against Bob Menery, a social media influencer, as the main event for the May 23 card in Las Vegas.

Manziel took over the nation in his redshirt freshman season, leading the SEC in completion percentage, rushing yards, rushing yards per game, and rushing touchdowns in what was nothing short of an incredible performance. He became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman and won AP Player of the Year. While his individual stats were arguably better as a sophomore, the Aggies' 8-4 regular season record limited him to a fifth-place finish in Heisman voting.

Manziel has the athletic resume to suggest he could be a talented fighter after spending time in the NFL and CFL. Once recruited by Texas to play safety, Manziel was a dazzlingly quick athlete who was stronger than he looked in his prime. Manziel could harness these traits into a solid boxing skill set, with the elusiveness to avoid contact and the power to land big punches.

He faces off against Menery, who hosts the Full Send Podcast. This may not be the first time Menery and Manziel have met, however, as Menery was an owner of the team Manziel played for in the now-defunct Fan Controlled Football league.
