Marreese Speights, former Golden State Warriors player, has been named head coach of the Polk State Eagles. Speights has a decade of NBA experience and previously coached at various levels, including high school and college.

A former member of the Golden State Warriors will enter the college ranks as a head coach. Former Warrior and long-time NBA big man Marreesse Speights was recently named head coach of the Polk State Eagles.
After playing 10 seasons in the NBA and playing overseas in China, Speights began coaching basketball, founding Speights Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2021. Speights then opened his college coaching career at Georgia Southern as an assistant. Speights went on to become the Director of Player Development at the University of South Florida. In 2025, Speights received his first high school head coaching job, coaching the Northside Christian School in Pinellas County, Florida.
Now Speights will take over the Polk State Eagles in Winter Haven, Florida.
Speights played for the Warriors from 2013 to 2016, winning a title with Golden State in 2015. In three seasons with the Warriors, Speights averaged eight points on 46% shooting from the floor to go along with 3.8 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game. Coined "Mo Buckets," Speights played a key role off the bench in Golden State's run to a championship in 2015. Speights played in three games in the NBA Finals, averaging three points and 1.7 rebounds.
Along with the Warriors, Speights also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Orlando Magic.
