Former Washington Huskies star running back Jonah Coleman has been one of the more talked-about 2026 NFL draft prospects in the last month.
Recently, the 5-foot-9, 229-pound Stockton, California native has made pre-draft visits to the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, and several others, but his trip to meet with the Denver Broncos may have been the most telling.
On Thursday, Coleman joined The Rich Eisen Show and detailed his experience speaking with coach Sean Payton.
“We had a quick conversation. He just pretty much asked me how I was doing. He said that he was excited to have me there. It was great meeting him,” Coleman said.
After an impressive showing in the on-field drills at UW’s Pro Day, the two-year starting tailback for the Huskies made the short drive down I5 to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center for a meeting with the Seahawks, an intriguing potential destination given the Super Bowl champions are in the market for a running back.
Since then, Coleman has visited the Vikings, where his former college position coach Scottie Graham made his name in the league from 1993-96, and the Broncos, who hold seven picks in the 2026 draft and could be lining up J.K. Dobbins‘ long-term replacement.
Dobbins, a second-round pick out of Ohio State in the 2020 draft by the Baltimore Ravens, signed a two-year deal to return to Denver this offseason, which will make him increasingly closer to 30 by the time his deal ends.
“Just the whole Broncos’ organization was ultimately in great spirits when I was there, and I felt all the love they have to give,” Coleman added.

“And just the camaraderie that they have. As far as a coaching staff and the culture that they’re building there is amazing. I would definitely say that’s been the highlight of the draft. They showed the most love and utmost respect when I visited there. It was just an amazing experience.”
With Coleman’s ability to be an every-down back as a runner and pass blocker at the next level, the former UW standout could be enticing for Payton with either the Broncos’ second-round pick (No. 62 overall) or one of their two fourth-round picks (No. 108 and No. 111 overall).
