A 25-year-old outfielder released by the New York Yankees found a new home in free agency.

Anthony Hall signed with the Sioux Falls (South Dakota) Canaries of the independent American Association, the league announced May 7.

Hall, who was released from his minor league contract with the Yankees in August 2025, is a former fourth-round draft pick out of the University of Oregon.

In 48 games last season with the advanced Class-A Hudson Valley Renegades of the South Atlantic League, Hall slashed .222/.300/.306. He had only nine extra-base hits among 32 in all, while striking out 50 times in 144 at-bats.

Overall, Hall slashed .234/.333/.358 across four seasons in the Yankees’ organization. He effectively ended his run three steps away from MLB.

Hall was enough of an amateur prospect to be drafted twice. The Atlanta Braves selected him in the 35th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Point Loma (Calif.) High School.

Hall opted to attend Oregon instead. Three years (and one pandemic-interrupted season) later, Hall was selected 130th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft — in a fourth round that also yielded future major leaguers Chase Meidroth (Red Sox) and Troy Melton (Tigers) among others.
