Four Bayern players in danger of suspension ahead of Real Madrid clash
Four Bayern Munich players are just one booking away from suspension as the German champions prepare to face Real Madrid in Wednesdayâs Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Allianz Arena.
Should any of Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah or Konrad Laimer receive a yellow card, they would be suspended for the first leg of a potential semi-final.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany suggested the current rules may need revisiting, with players getting a one-match suspension if they receive three yellow cards before the semi-finals.
âThatâs not an issue right now, although I need to say itâs maybe an issue for next year,â Kompany said ahead of the clash.
âI think itâs really tough to come through these rounds in Europe without suspensions. There are more games now, but you still get a suspension after three cards. If you get this far with only three yellows, youâve done well but will still be suspended for a semi-final. Thatâs tough.
âI think this suspension rule is a bit aggressive. Itâs the same for everyone, but Iâd think about it again for next year. This logic is too harsh. But itâs not an issue for today.â
