The UCLA Bruins held their first Spring Game under Bob Chesney this past weekend. The game itself came in the middle of UCLA’s recruiting rampage, with Chesney and the Bruins landing recruit after recruit to build up a Top-10 2027 recruiting class.
While the program was adding talent for future UCLA teams, some members of the current Bruin team stood out in the first game action of the year. 247 Sports UCLA reporter Mike Regalado circled four players as standouts from Saturday’s action at the Rose Bowl.
The potential of the UCLA offense will be decided by starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava but Nico’s younger brother, Madden Iamaleava, caught some eyes during the Spring Game, emerging as a name to watch in the backup quarterback competition.
Madden Iamaleava was initially with Arkansas but decided to join his brother with UCLA last year. If Nico goes pro following the 2026 season, perhaps another Iamaleava will take over as the Bruins starter.
It was a good day overall for the UCLA pass rush but Holland especially, with reporters saying that Holland had three sacks on Saturday. Holland is set to begin his second season with UCLA after joining the program as a three-star recruit out of Inglewood High School. The 6’4” edge rusher could give some pass rush juice to a new-look Bruin defense.
Four players were highlighted as standouts, including quarterback Madden Iamaleava.
Bob Chesney's leadership is expected to enhance UCLA's recruiting efforts and overall team performance.

Anthony Woods has had flashes over his three college seasons at Idaho and UCLA but with better offensive infrastructure this season, Woods could break out. UCLA has increased depth at running back, mainly with Wayne Knight from James Madison, but Woods could play his way into a role this fall.
Former Michigan wideout Semaj Morgan made a good first impression on Saturday, hauling in a long completion from Madden Iamaleava. In three seasons at Michigan, including an NCAA championship in 2023, Morgan never had more than 27 catches but he also never had fewer than 20. We’ll see if Morgan’s role grows with UCLA this season.
