As spring practice has come to an end, high school recruiting has taken over the headlines around Austin. Official visits are on the horizon but could Steve Sarkisian and Texas have good news coming before that? The No. 4 TE in the country and major Texas target, Brock Williams has set his commitment date for May 15th. Texas is competing with Ohio State and Georgia for his services but it seems the Longhorns are in the driver’s seat.
The 6’5”, 210lbs prospect out of Libertyville, Illinois has earned his status as one of the top TEs in the country. His length, athleticism and ability after the catch is remarkable and as he adds weight, his blocking will improve drastically. In the last two seasons for Libertyville High School, he totaled over 1,200 receiving yards and 18 TDs. His ability to line up all over the field could be a massive advantage for Texas if they can earn his commitment.
If Williams does commit to Texas, he could become the highest-rated TE prospect signed in the Sarkisian era, just outpacing Nick Townsend. With Michael Masunas and Spencer Shannon finding their way to the NFL after this season, the opportunity for a major role in his freshman year is there. Along with Townsend and Emaree Winston, it could be a special TE room athletically.
There is no official time set for his commitment yet but be on the lookout next Friday. Jeff Banks, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns could be locking up the top TE prospect of their tenure. Williams is someone that I believe could have multiple Gunnar Helm-2024 esque seasons and possibly enter David Thomas conversations. It all starts with seeing if Texas can finish the job next Friday.
