After decommitting from the University of Michigan in February, the four-star quarterback recruit from Hingham and Tabor Academy will attend Virginia Tech (and partake in the program's famous pregame Metallica run-out), as first reported by Rivals recruiting reporter Hayes Fawcett on X on Thursday, May 14.
The 6-foot-4 Bourque won Mass. Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior last fall and led Tabor Academy to an undefeated season (9-0), which was capped by a triumph in the NEPSAC John Papas Bowl. He compiled passing totals of 2,241 yards and 18 touchdown passes, and a rushing output of 688 yards and 15 touchdowns, for the season.
Virginia Tech will soon enter its first campaign under the direction of former Penn State coach James Franklin, who finalized a five-year contract with the school in November.
The Hokies finished third-to-last in the ACC (3-9 overall, 2-6 ACC) standings last fall under Brent Pry (now the team's defensive coordinator/linebackers coach) and interim coach Philip Montgomery.
Bourque originally committed to Michigan last August, prior to when former Wolverines head coach in December for allegedly engaging "in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member," . The school then announced the hiring to a five-year deal in December.
Peter Bourque decommitted from Michigan in February, but specific reasons for his decision were not disclosed.
During his junior season, Bourque passed for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 688 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Bourque led Tabor Academy to an undefeated 9-0 season and won the Mass. Gatorade Player of the Year award.
